Yarn totes: I can tote it, I just need yer yarn cakes

I know you’ve seen them...the beautiful Instagram picture with the perfectly positioned yarn butler, or the nice ceramic yarn bowl from JamPdX (that we all want to purchase but are waiting because we are too lazy to click “submit”. Or perhaps “we haven’t gotten paid yet” *coughs* lies *coughs*

But behind this perfectly curated picture lies something gastly. Something so awful, yet beautiful. Expensive, yet desecrated. Messy, yet artistic. It’s the project bags, the storage baskets, and perhaps the bed side piles that contain the remnants of WIPs. It is literally anything that houses our projects that we work on while we are home.

It’s the project bag that contains the sweater that is lonely on sleeve island. A sweater that is longing for a touch. Or perhaps it’s the Jessie Mae tank that is forced to live its days in pieces, half unraveled but somehow still keeping it together (me during this past presidency).

Now somewhere, trapped in endless loops of yarn lie the true MVPs, our tools.

The measuring tape that keeps us from knitting a sweater with a torso that is fitting for a toddler. It’s the fancy tiny scissors that we have opted to use because they’re tiny and super duper cute. It’s the threading needle that keeps getting lost in the sea of threads. And finally, it’s the damn knitting needles that keep making their way to the bottom like some heavy ass cement block.

If you don’t identify, then good for you. But if you do, then I would like to personally apologize for attacking us...because yes I also self identify.

If you’re the still reading you may say, “okay where are we going?” Well hop in my friend because we are going on a journey to find a home project bag.

I first saw this type of bag on Instagram but I wasn’t crazy about the material that was being used. Most of these bags were made out of felted material. And I get it, they hold their shape but it felt weird (ha!) carrying around a felted bag. It looked like those weird blankets that they use in every disaster movie after the protagonist survives a huge volcano or a kidnapping.

I wanted something similar so I went on Etsy and found this beautiful tote made by By the Bay Yarn Co. It’s made out of canvas and it comes in a variety of colors. I mean look at it! Also there are pockets on the inside AND outside.

It is big enough to fit a sweaters worth and it’s thicc enough to prevent puncturing by the tiny scissors. Yay! Also there is enough space to add a notion bag and then some.

All in all I paid about $39.25 plus shipping.

Will this bag make me less of a hot mess? Perhaps not.

Will it make my Jessie Mae tank look guuud as it chills and waits for me to finish the other WIP? You bet your fine ass it will.

I’m excited to see what happens to the fabric with time. I will be experimenting to see if it holds up with pins and report back.

In the meantime, I would love to hear what you all do to stay organized.

P.S. if you understand this title I want you to know that this bag is, “more biggie” and that’s why I love it 😂😂
