Foraging for Fiber - COZY in Eugene, OR

 This shop is mesmerizing.

If you need to reinvigorate your knitting mojo, take a trip down to Eugene, Oregon, to visit Cozy. This yarn shop is the perfect neighbor to the 5th Street Public Market, where you can enjoy an open market experience filled with delicious coffee, pastries, and if you feel like having lunch after buying yarn, you can drop by Pure for some sushi.

The layout of Cozy is well thought out. The shop has an open concept with white shelves lining the walls, which house yarns in a pleasing spectrum of colors.

Some of the yarns are in the shop's outer wings, perfectly positioned not to disturb your view from the rest of the shop. Unfortunately, due to COVID, the area meant for needles and knitting literature was blocked off. But from the looks of it, the owner has stocked anything and everything you will need.

Now let’s talk about the products, shall we!

Needles –

The predominant brands were Lykke, Chiaogoo, and Knitter’s pride. Cozy had MANY options to choose from; suffice to say that I scored some mindful meditation needles during my visit!

Yarn –

I am in lust with the care and thoughtfulness that went into the arrangement of the yarn. The walls were reserved for your traditional companies like malabrigo, cascade yarn, Woolfolk, and others (you name it, they probably most likely have it). The stand-alone displays were for local dyers, and each stand contained a map of Oregon with a small star describing the dyer's geographical location. Now I don’t know if other folks are like this, but here in Oregon, we vibe with local products, and this was truly a beautiful way to showcase local work.

Tools & Other products you should care about -

Wool wash REFILLING station. Ya’ll this shop has a wool wash REFILLING station. You don’t have to throw out that tiny empty bottle of Eucalan because Cozy has hooked it up! They have various Eucalan products, so don’t throw those suckers out; we can reuse them! I. know… I was shook too.

Project scissors – they have tiny ones, medium ones, ones encased in carrying cases, and others that are not.

Measuring tapes – Cozy has measuring tapes for the purist (i.e., measuring tapes that are simple), and they have measuring tapes for those of us who prefer to have cute animal-shaped craft tools.

Online shopping?

This store does have a website. The site details the yarns they carry; unfortunately, online shopping is not available. But that is not an issue because I believe that this shop is worth visiting. But before you do, make sure to call because with current COVID protocols, they allow folks to call in and schedule a shopping appointment, or if you happen to drop by, you can enter as long as there are less than six people in the shop.

Perks?

This knitting shop tracks your purchases, and you can keep track too with the CashApp. The point of this reward system is that you receive a $20 credit after spending $350! So you can eventually save money by spending money.

I believe it is safe to say that I will definitely visit this shop again!
