If you are on the market for a set of needles or if you’re trying to find THE needles for that special someone that has many perks, Knitter’s Pride Mindful Collection will be your best bet.
I purchased this set from a cute little shop in Eugene, OR, called COZY (if you are curious about it, I made a quick entry earlier this year). I have never owned a set of interchangeables from this company, so I decided to try them for my birthday.
The information regarding all the accessories, needles, and cables included in the set was directly from their website. So why am I such a fangirl?
1. The Case – Holy hell, whoever was in charge of designing and selecting the fabric for this set deserves a pat on the back and a pizza party (IYKYK) because the case is perfect! The canvas makes this case sturdyyy, and the zipper doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart. The closing mechanism is reminiscent of the zip-up binders that we used to carry in middle school. If you had one of these, you know that shit ain’t bustin open in your project bag. The colors are calming, and the way that the needles slip into their holder is strangely satisfying (personally, I think that it is due to my issue with another set that I have).
2. The Needles & Cables – I purchased the US2.5-8 because I don’t have use for anything bigger than that; also, this was the only set I could find. The needles are stainless steel with a matte finish. You would not think that a matte finish is all that important, but this finish is a godsend for someone who is not a fan of bright white lights or glares. Mainly because my husband loves bright white lights in the house, while I’m a soft yellow light kind of gal.
So Let’s talk about the sharpness, shall we? As a thrower, another essential quality is the sharpness of the needles. So far, I haven’t been shanked by the needles, so I feel like it’s safe to say that they are not too sharp, but they are not dull either. I think it’s fair to say that this is a nice in-between.
The cables are covered in nylon – reminiscent of their other needles, but these ones seem more flexible. Now, there are two types of cables in this set. The swivel cords and the fixed cords, yes, this means that you do not have to buy a different set to experience the swivel ya’ll! The swivel cord is intended to prevent twisting and kinking. I love the idea of the swivel cord, but I don’t love the mini heart attack that I feel when I notice the swivel, and I’m fooled into thinking that my needle is coming loose! But since it’s in my set, I will use it, but it isn’t my favorite. :-/
You will find a cable extender in your kit – again, you don’t have to buy it as an add-on (SHOCKER). And finally, I think it’s worth mentioning that these needles have lifeline holes.
Accessories –
I love that this set comes with a bunch of extras. The darning needles are a must! This is the first set that I have that has offered this perk. I kind of wish that they were made out of metal, but beggars can’t be choosers, right? I would argue that this set is perfect for newbies because it comes with a darning needle, which many of us don’t get until we complete our first pattern….
Now I do want to mention the stitch markers. The folks at Knitter’s Pride hooked it up with so many stitch markers that are all enclosed in their own little bag! The end caps are nice because I know you have more than one project going on, and trust me, you will think about borrowing your needles from a WIP, and when you do this, you will think about using another set to lock the stitches in. Fear not; the end caps are included to prevent your stitches from escaping. :D
So are these needles worth the money? I would say so.
Is this an excellent gift for the holidays? Hell to the yes.
Will this be my full-time set? You bet your sweet butt.
** P.S. I don't get paid for this. I literally take on extra shifts so I can splurge.
